It was a good day for the Malaysian boys’ singles players in the
Dutch Junior International when all four made it to the fourth round.
Top seed Soong Joo Ven, who is eyeing for his first junior title this
year, has a good chance to make the quarter-finals when he plays Tanguy
Citron of France next.
The other three – Cheam June Wei, Soo Teck Zhi and Lim Chi Wing – will have a hard fight in their hands.
June Wei will take on joint fifth-eighth seed Mark Caljouw of France;
Teck Zhi will meet Thailand’s Thanadol Jumpanoi; and Chi Wing, who
received a walkover from second seed Matthias Almer of Austria, will
face England’s Michael Roe.
Top national girl shuttler Ho Yen Mei can thank her lucky stars for
breezing into the fourth round without breaking sweat after receiving
byes and walkovers.
The ninth-11th seeded Yen Mei will take on the winner of the match
between Kirtsen van der Valk of Holland and Jessica Pugh of England.
Malaysia’s challenge in the mixed doubles also progressed smoothly
when all four pairs – Darren Issac Devadass-Joyce Wai Chi Choong, Ong
Yew Sin-S. Kisona, Chua Kek Whei-Yap Cheng Wen and Woon Moon Chun-Yen
Mei – advanced to the fourth round.
