Malaysia’s challenge in German Open GP Gold fizzles out

Malaysia’s challenge in the German Open GP Gold came to an end after Goh Liu Ying-Lim Yin Loo were given a thumping by top seeds Misaki Matsutomo-Ayaka Takahashi in the women’s doubles quarter-finals in Mulheim on Friday.
The difference in standard was evident as the world No. 26 Liu Ying-Yin Loo struggled to cope with the Japanese world No. 4, going down 11-21, 5-21 in just 30 minutes.
Misaki-Ayaka will face South Korea’s Jung Kyung-eun-Kim Ha-na for a place in the final.
In other matches, China unleashed yet another potential star in the men’s singles in the the shape of Qiao Bin, who beat fourth seed Wong Wing Ki of Hong Kong 21-11, 21-12 to reach the semi-finals.
The Chinese youngster will face compatriot and top seed Chen Long, who struggled to dispatch local ace Marc Zwiebler 21-10, 19-21, 21-12.
Japan’s Sayaka Takahashi also produced a major upset in the women’s singles, rallying to beat world No. 1 and reigning Olympic champion Li Xuerui of China 17-21, 21-12, 21-17.
